Typical of builder homes from the 80's, the main floor of this home contained many small spaces but no space that could comfortably hold more than 4 people.  We combined the Kitchen, Nook, Dining, Family into just Kitchen and Dining with a side Music Room.  Then we added a large Family Room & Outdoor Living Space off the back with a Bonus Room above.  The fireplace is see-thru to connect the interior and exterior spaces.  To break up the now large spaces, we used dropped beams and varying floor  & ceiling heights.  We stick framed the Bonus Room above so that we could have a fun kids loft space along with cozy vaulted ceilings.
